The Mela opened at 3 PM in the afternoon with thin film of visitors. By 5 PM the gathering of visitors started through both the gates. The ladies of the capital city who like every year waited for this fair to purchase their home needs like broom sticks, red chillies, chilly powder, turmeric and turmeric powder, blackgram, honey, resin etc. of the tribal people for their households came in to see, bargain and buy the tribal products with unshakable faith that the tribal products are pure and unadulterated like the tribal themselves. Women of capital city know that our tribal people are not commercial, they produce things for their own use not to earn money by selling these. Therefore their products are pure like themselves.
The revered guests of the evening were Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister, Shri Subarna Nayak, MLA, Keonjhar and Shri Karendra Majhi, MLA, Baliguda. All of them sang the glory of tribal cultures of Orissa while narrating the pre history and history of Orissa from Vedic age to the modern age. They are unanimous on the point that the present culture of Orissa has been born out of the aboriginal tribal culture and traditions from time immorial.
The Cultural programme of the today’s evening were the “Ghumura” dance of Kalahandi district, the dance of the Sounti tribe of Keonjhar, Kandha dance of Kandhamala and Rayagada and the variety dance of Karanjia School Children.
